NEOMATRIX partners meet in Ankara

As we hit the 18th month of our 3-year-long international science collaboration project NEOMATRIX, a H2020 funded Twinning project, PIs and ESRs from all partners (Stockholm University, Institut Jacques Monod, Université de Paris and French National Centre for Scientific Research, The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, and METU/Hacettepe aDNA Lab) came together for a 5-day meeting in Ankara. We evaluated our activities up to now and planned the future of our scientific collaboration. We also had a two-day workshop in Hacettepe University on the Neolithization of the Mediterranean, where our ESRs presented their latest ancient DNA data to be discussed from an archaeological and anthropological point of view. In an event open to all (undergraduate) students at METU, the PIs of the NEOMATRIX network, Anders Götherström, Eva-Maria Geigl, Argyro Nafplioti and Thierry Grange delivered archaeogenomic talks on popular topics. The Ankara meeting also included visits to Aşıklı Höyük in Aksaray and the Hittite centers of Boğaköy and Alacahöyük in Çorum, where we met archaeologists who lead the excavations and studies in these sites. We thank our partners who came all the way to Ankara and contributed to this event! We do expect this meeting to further enhance our scientific collaboration!
